2011 PRESS RELEASE
WILLIE BARRY and his Chaperones
17 year old Willie Barry is an Acoustic Guitarist and Singer/Songwriter hailing from the small town of Jefferson, in Frederick County Maryland.
When he first arrived on the local music scene two years ago, he was known for his inspiring performances of the complex and poetic works of the legendary Bob Dylan. Since then, he has been influenced by many other Folk and Country artists, and has written and published his own collection of music as well. In his short career, Willie has booked over 100 paid local shows, including performances for the Cities of Rockville, Annapolis, Frederick, and Gaithersburg. He has appeared at Hollow Creek Golf Club, The Corvette show at Shab Row, Downtown Market Street “First Saturday”, The Washingtonian RIO Center, and many more events. Willie also believes in giving back to his community. He volunteers his time to perform for great causes like The American Red Cross (to help Haiti), The Frederick County Hospice workers, Habitat for Humanity, Shady Grove Rehabilitation Hospital, The Frederick Food Bank, and a benefit for the people of Japan.
2011 began a new chapter in Willie’s musical growth, with the addition of new material, and the opportunity to play with band members for the first time. Willie quickly learned how to lead and coordinate timing between his fellow musicians, and continues to benefit from the mentoring he is receiving from his more seasoned fellow musicians. Willie considers himself lucky to have the friendship of so many local musicians, and he recently enlisted a few special friends to play in some of his 2011 shows. Some of these 2011 band members include accomplished local musician Barry Bryan (on bass guitar), Tomy (one M) Wright (on percussion and vocals), and occasionally Mr. Todd Coyle (on lead guitar). All of these musicians are very successful and accomplished in their own careers. They call themselves “Willie Barry and the Chaperones”. They are outstanding musicians and mentors, who contribute a wealth of talent and experience to the local Frederick, MD and surrounding Communities.
Willie continues to grow as an original song writer. At the age of 15, he published a CD containing 9 of his own songs. He has written several more songs that he plans to include in his next CD. It is getting more difficult to tell if Willie is singing a cover song or an original, which is a true compliment to any songwriter. As Cover songs go, he likes many artists like Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, George Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and the Everly Brothers to name just a few.
Willie’s website (www.williebarry.com) contains information on Willie’s 2011 show dates, photos, media coverage, music samples, and countless testimonials from fans. Willie finished his Junior year at Brunswick High School and he is seeking music scholarships to attend a College or University in the Fall of 2012. His dream is to one day meet Bob Dylan.
